The photo above is an old postcard depicting the city of Neutitschein which was part of the German Empire at that time. This same city is Novy Jicin, Czech Republic today. This is the birthplace of Alois Berger (born 1874) and his father, Josef Berger (born 1843) and the time period may be what it looked like around the time Alois was a child there. The occupation of Ignatius Berger (born 1746), Alois’s great-grandfather, is recorded as a “clothing merchant” in Neutitschein.
