Petru Ship

As you can see from the spreadsheet above, the Petru Family did not all come to the U.S. together. This information is only indication and not proof but, even with these slim leads, I have been unable to locate the official ship’s manifests. An exhaustive search of microfilm records from the National Archives in Washington D.C. did not result in success. They could have docked in New York and then taken a train to Texas or a smaller ship from The Port of New York to the Port of Galveston. It is also possible that they may have traveled aboard a ship that docked directly at the Port of Galveston from Bremen as it appears in at least two cases. Various documents that I have found indicate that they immigrated between 1881 and 1892. (A 1921 fire destroyed almost all 1890 census records so, verification of their presence here in that decade is difficult.) Also, documents at that time were on paper only and, the Great Hurricane of 1900 that struck Galveston Island, destroyed many valuable immigration records for that port. Antonia’s brother, Frantisek, who arrived at the Port of Galveston in 1902, was easy to find; however, Antonia supposedly came in 1890 which was prior to the hurricane. The search continues for official documentation for any Petru ship.
